Really, if Apoth wasn't being so post-count anal, he'd have realized that the first thread in an area is kinda special. I mean, look! I getta be the first to blabber on about nothing in particular in the area of the forum that always seems to wind up with the most traffic.

Not only that- think of all the pointless statistics these forums automatically calculate! I mean, c'mon- do you really think Apoth would go through and calculate our posts per day by hand? Well...maybe that's a bad example, but still...

And, of course, since this is also an off-topic thread, I'm probably required to say something random and stupid at least once.

Crap is unnutritional.

Oh, weird, the 'edit' function isn't a different screen like I thought it'd be...my post opened fresh again...

So, like I typed but didn't save earlier...do we frown upon double posting now that we can edit things? I mean, it's kind of a nice way to bump attention to things when we have new thoughts to something, but have let a lot of time pass by. Brings attention to it. But too much double-posting is just annoying. Heck, that's half of my bias against drums.

Speaking of which...do threads bump now!? Will we not have to go digging for an old thread that's become popular again? The thought makes me giddy. XD :D

Yep, the threads definitely bump. No more of this searching for messages stuff. I'm glad my laziness has finally been pandered to.

Not sure why Apoth is so hung up on his post count, I like the nuking of the old order and starting from zero again.

Tried as I might have to soothe Apoth's raging STD, I think he is officially on strike. Or maybe he's just recovering from yesterday...

I would just like to point out that calling Apoth's need for statistics "STD" is by far one of the funnier things we've ever done. Not to mention that announcing to newbs that Apoth has the worst case of STD ever will freak the hell out of them.

I'm back. I was busy yesterday actually. Had a lovely afternoon with Ves. Wore her out much more than I wore myself out, I've got unlimited energy when it comes to that. Then went out for dinner my little brothers birthday party, then had a friend over until late because it is his last day in town. We watched City of God and was pretty dissapointed by the film as a whole. Then, I watched several episodes of this TV show online I'm slightly addicted to. Then I passed out at 4:20 AM. So I woke up this morning at 12:30ish and this forum was the first thing I joined, though I'm going to talk to Xnull about getting our old post counts added on to the new ones. If not, I'll just have to take over this forum myself. Conquer it one post at a time.

and he's only been here a few hours and already has the highest post count. That just proves how pointless the whole post count thing is. The rest of us have been here since it was opened and been rather chatty about it, but here he comes and BAM he has the highest right off the bat... doesn't matter at all. If only there was a way to list a statistic for post content quality rather than count.

Dragavan, am I detecting a tiny hint of jealousy in your voice?

My posts are writting with fairly grammaticaly correct english and usually contain a fair amount of substance and length to them. Word count in posts would be pretty interesting though, like a statistic for how many words one has posted. I just simply have a lot to say Drag... don't be jealous.

No jealousy at all. Just don't see the point of obsessing over word counts (or most pointless statistics for that matter). There are things that matter and should be respected, but meaningless statistics like word count are not one of them.

Just like on one of the other forums I regularly read they have a "welcome" section and the guys with the highest post counts will do threads in there that say nothing but "Welcome [insert forum name here]" for every new member that joins the site (whether or not they ever post). They also do a lot of the one-word to one-line posts that reply to most conversations going on (especially a lot of "me too" and "I agree with bob" type of posts). Sure they have post counts in the tens of thousands, but substance is somewhere in the low hundreds.

I was not saying that all of Apoths posts were vapid and empty, just that his obsession over word count was not really important. He should care that what he posts matters and isn't just there to pump up pointless statistics.

As an aside, I also don't like seeing forums used as a chat room. Back and forth one-line conversation comments (which can also pump up that post count rather fast) are a waste of forum space. Use a chat program for that. Again, not saying that is the case here, just venting on forum activities that get me annoyed (and are related to the pointlessness of post counts).

Even if a thread is used like a chatroom in some respect, text takes up such a minimal amount of usage that so long as it is contained to a small area it doesn't really effect the server. You would need millions of posts before it took up any noticeable amount of space.

Not that I want to use the forum as a chatroom.

Also, by the same principals you use to say post count and word count are meaningless, we could say that the entire site is pointless. I mean, we aren't changing the world, saving lives, satiating any of our three basic needs. It is just for fun, just like my obsession with the numbers. You can say that you do not find it entertaining or enjoyable but I don't believe it is fair to simply label them "pointless."

Also, one really long post takes up more server memory than many many short one liners... so basically the only thing the one liners do is serve to annoy people looking for new messages... which is why I think they should be limited to certain "crazy" threads.
