Nice to see members of both communities working together to beat up on the weak.

I think we're more "elitist" than "pretentious" over here though.

It seems there are two kinds of people in the world: those who see CYOA as written gaming and those who see it as a unique narrative form. When I write a story, I don't give a shit about objects and points and powers and all that crap. I give a shit about cohesiveness, ambiance, ideas, etc. Nothing against games but it irks me more than a little that nowhere on the pros/cons list did anyone really just say that a big pro of IS is that you're not forced into gaming out your story, which is kind of like whoring out your story.
And 3J, I find it sad that you consider the MASSIVENESS of our stories over here and our MASSIVE membership, etc., to be what distinguishes our stories. The unavoidable fact is that IS distinguishes itself as the site that has people above a 5th-grade literacy level. That's all there is to it.

Well, I have to give them credit for one thing- variables. In moderation, these could be useful. Mostly just to determine whether or not you have an item. For example, in Rentyre, there are eight rooms that are direct copy-and-pastes of other rooms, but they have to different, because for one set of rooms you have Reggie's keys, and for the other set you don't have them. If I could have a 'key' variable, it'd save a lot of room doubling. I put in something like that in Apoth's Hallway, too, and Apoth's Escape Artist story is a ridiculous maze of room-doubling and tripling depending on what you have and haven't done.
But I totally agree that once you stop using them in moderation, they stop becoming a useful tool and start becoming something that detracts from the story. Besides, that site looks so ridiculously complicated to use I'm not sure I care enough to join up, sit down, figure it all out, and then have to cope with all of the morons on the forums.

Did you not read the comparison I posted on there? I clearly mentioned this.

Hey man we have people with over a 5th grade literacy level as well, just not many. I don't know how many stories you've read over there but there are some gems.

Pssss, that's a woman; not a man. I know you're not used to such things over on CYS...
There are some good ones over there, Ves. "Snow" is my favorite that I've read so far. "Mommy can I go out and kill tonight?" is solid too, annoying title, but solid.
When are you getting the rest of your stories back, JJJ. I'd like to read that Tower one.

Poop, I did read your posts on that forum and I did not find your defense of IS to be sufficiently rabid and fanatical. My blood lust was stirring and I was really hoping for a flame war, not this diplomatic bullturd that, were it carried into the higher levels of government, might even threaten as horrific a spectacle as world peace!
That being said, the sand did eventually get shaken from my vagina, and I may give those stories over at CYS a cursory, prejudicial glance one of these days. Maybe.
