Hi everyone, haven't done any work on here for a while, so I have an open proposition for you all (baring in mind it's a general outline and not all set-in-stone):
"In-Woods and Out-Woods"
Genre:
"In-Woods and Out-Woods" is a contemporary Adult Fairy tale including elements of:
Brotherly Rivalry
Coming of Age
War
Surrealism
Setting:
A Swedish forest, Mid-1990s.
Protagonists:
Jack-Aged,10
Jeremy-Aged,18
Secondary Characters:
The Micro-People: Anachronistic, odd and contradictory the small people are an essential element of the story.
Jack and Jeremy's Parents.
Premise:
Jack and Jeremy, two feuding Brothers on holiday become lost and separated in a Swedish forest. Soon the forest begins to affect their mind and psyche. They feel disturbed and damaged internally through the psychological displacement of losing one another and themselves.
Surreal visions begin to envelope around them. Both become growingly involved in opposing tribes of micro-people. Events escalate and the drums of war begin to beat, how they play out is down to you.
Themes:
The story is a tale of fantastical surrealism, about the bizzarity of internal views of ourselves and external views of the world around us (Hence the title "In-Woods and Out-Woods" being a play on "Inwards and Outwards") and how often truth is obscured unnecessarily. In "In-Woods and Out-Woods" the natural environment is often a primary factor in this (Hence the use of "Woods" in the title). Also the micro-people are an essential element of the story and contain various undercurrents on views of ancient and modern society.
Furthermore, this is a very vague list of issues and internal-questions the story could pose (Mostly in a subtle manner). However with the story unwritten at this stage it is impossible to say quite how these may pan out:
Environmentalism & Luddism
Self-acquired Fairness V. Externally-imposed "Fairness"
Progressivism V. Reactionism
Realism V. Romanticism
Balance, and contradictory forces shaping reality
Required Skills:
I essentially want someone to write the story of Jack with its twists, turns and different choices. Someone who has:
A decent level of literacy and enthusiasm.
Interest in the subject material.
Friendly attitude and willingness to help each other out on various sections.
Narrative Mechanics:
I plan to have the narrative work in a rotational system. A few rooms with Jeremy then, a few rooms with Jack. I would quite like the two narratives to have a fairly distinct style which is one of the reasons I believe the story needs another writer.
As a consequence of this the other writer would be permitted to have a lot of their own artistic freedom while still collaborating as the two story threads inter-weave. In conjunction with this system the usage of Chapters in "Necromancer" seems a good example to follow (hopefully EndMaster doesn't mind).
That's all, thanks for reading and hope some of you might be interested!
Best,
