The way it was explained to me is that each search engine has a bot that scans the web so that the page can appear listed in the engine, and they just so happen to appear as guests when they do so. I know nothing of this sort of computer-y thing, so it's possible I'm entirely wrong, but...I think that's how it works. Your creepy Google ads are still safe.

Also,if someone doesnt log in and just keeps checking back to see if anything new has been posted,each visit is probably considered a new lurker on the counter.
