Mmmm... the number of religious people was fairly depressing.


As for the poverty, it isn't like it is a new problem or anything but no one has really proposed any solutions that would work. So far communism was the last idea and look how well that worked. It's counterproductive to get depressed over something that you really can't change.

Meaningful change comes in degrees and happens very slowly. You have a depressingly defeatist attitude. However statistically irrelevant, every little bit of effort is something. It has substance and it has purpose. I suggest you actually see with your own eyes some of the places on Earth that are unimaginable to you from the point of view of your own upbringing. You don't have to feel bad for having been born into the circumstances you were, but turning your back like this before you've even gotten to experience a few more of the many different realities that people live with in the world is rather cowardly.

Some poverty is inevitable. Like people who live in an area with absolutely no natural resources or infrastructure are bound to be impoverished. Capitalism is by no means perfect but no one has yet to come up with a better alternative.
