Never seen any of these, but some look familiar from browsing the movie sections in Best Buy and Suncoast in the past.

The most recognizable one is "Pulse" since I've seen like 50 copies of it for sale in the horror section. After looking it up, I see that it’s another one of those that was originally a J-Horror that was remade for American audiences.

In fact a lot of these seem to be Japanese or Korean horror movies. What caused the sudden interest?

At work we are trying to prepare something new for the teen crowd. We want to show movies on Halloween night, because around these parts the teens can't trick or treat after age 13. So, they go around and cause trouble, or stay home and drink. We are hoping to offer a more interestin alternative in the form of Movie Night.

We want to show two movies, one of them an older film, one of them a newer, but possibly foreign film. Currently we are reviewing Ringu as an option, but since it doesn't have a rating in the US it is kind of iffy on whether or not we will be able to obtain it and present it. We do however have the liscence to show it, which is a start.

As I was going through other possible horror films, I started my own list, and discovered that I am very much interested in asian horror films. I love artsy films, especially scary artsy films. I always thought there was a certain art to the Ring, and I thought Pan's Labyrinth was absolutely beautiful... though less scary.

So, I guess the next question is: any PG13 or appropriate foreign films for teens that would also be scary?

I would actually suggest Ringu because the storyline is already at least a little familiar to lots of people on account of the American version. However, they'd now have the pleasure of seeing the far superior Japanese one. If my memory serves me, there is absolutely no sex and very little gore in that film, certainly far less than your run-of-the mill slasher. People die with their faces contorted in terror and that's about it. In my opinion, the mindfuck alone in this movie makes it deserving of an "R", but since "mindfuck" or anything else that is subtle is not a criterion in rating films, I'd say it's a safe bet for legally warping kids' minds.

I was really dismayed when I saw such a huge list of foreign films that I've never seen before. I guess it's not really my genre, but still...I have my work cut out for me for Halloween! Oh, yeah, and the IWT4. Meh.

Shikou sounds familiar. But no, I havent seen any of those. I like most of the foreign films that I've seen.

Man Bites Dog was cool, it was a french film that was filmed like adocumentary about a serial killer. A camera man and a sound guy follow him around. The sound guy ends up getting shot and replaced, and the second sound guy gets shot and replaced. It was pretty funny.

I need to get Man Bites Dog on DVD sometime.

It’s a cool movie, but definitely not PG-13.

Uzumaki or “Spiral” is another Japanese horror movie. It’s not incredibly bloody, but it’s pretty weird. I dunno, you’d probably have to view it first.

You could try “Battlefield Baseball” It’s Japanese, and its going into the “R” realm with the blood, however it’s pretty silly too, so maybe that would work.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone like horror movies with concepts like “Evil Tapes/Evil DVDs/Evil Internet sites?”

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve never had any desire to watch the Ring or something like “Fear Dot Shit” (As I’ve often heard it called)

The only exception was Videodrome which I still like to this day.

The Ring was the only "evil-tape" thing that I liked.

And I never realized that "evil tape" was its own sub-genre...

Well a few years back, most likely starting with the popularity of The Ring, there seemed like there was a period of time where there were a lot of horror movies coming out with an evil tape/dvd/website/cellphone in them. Basically a slew of horror movies having the supernatural “get up with the times”, I suppose. (“Technonatural” genre?)

It's not exactly a new concept, since its been done in some other older horror movies, (I mentioned Videodrome, and Evilspeak also comes to mind) and I'm sure some of these newer "Technonatural" movies are okay, I just don't feel very motivated to watch them.

I think if there is supernatural evil then there is the potential for it to adapt to new media. I like the video tape idea, it totally freaked me out. But, I am a wuss.
