I thought both stories I was up against were great.
I enjoyed revisiting some characters from Legend (or whatever it's called now), and Falcon retained his bad-ass attitude. I was interested in reading more about what happened with Falcon after he came back from the dead, so that was excellent. You definately had me hooked, EndMaster.
I also enjoyed the cliche beginning of Cyssnea, you pulled it off quite well Usoki. I liked how you didn't just try to throw a cliche at the reader, but mocked it. Very amusing, I really dug on it.
Both were great and quite even in my mind. I based my vote on which I would like to read more of.

Bumping this thread back to the top to draw attention. Apparently after Lockes self-righteous fit about me posting the thread a day early (which I did screw up on), he still failed to enter a fucking story. Please use this poll to vote for the one you preferred. All votes are anonymous. Drop some comments on the stories in here.

Having never read Legend, I'll have assume that End's story would make more sense if I had read the work. As it is, I feel like I'm being thrown into the middle of a work in progress with no explanations whatsoever- a nausiating feeling I don't care for. Having little unknown mysteries at the beginning of a story to dangle above the reader's head is one thing, but having no idea what the hell is going on is quite another. If I wanted that feeling, I'd just start watching an anime mid-season.
I'm not pompous-ass-ish enough to vote for my own, which leaves DEPs. And, since I did vote instead of abstaining- I obviously liked it. Granted, I'm amused by the idea of inanimate objects manipulating people, but it was well written and fairly suspenseful. Confusing enough to make the reader want more, but not enough to make the reader go "Eh, fuck it." It was good enough to make overlook the copious amounts of two-three sentence paragraphs, so that's gotta say something.
Incidentally, Cyssnea is one of my ideas that gets dropped out of laziness and desire to work on other, shinier things. I've never really known where that story goes, other than mocking the genre at most opportunities. So, without a plot, I'm pretty sure it'll just sit on the back-burner until I scavenge what little of it I did have for other, better works.

Let's see...
If I vote for Usoki, DEP will think I did it just so I’ll stay ahead.
If I vote for DEP, Usoki will think it’s because of what he said about my story.
If I vote for myself, all will think I’m an egomaniac.
Thanks a lot you guys, no matter which way I vote now, I look like a total dick.
Anyway, I’m voting for DEP’s story, I liked it better.
I was thinking about expanding the Falcon story into a short little CYOA, guess I’ll use a “deleted story” for it, if I do.

Pssh. That's what happens when there are small numbers. It turns into a bizarre sort of half-political battle if you're not careful.
Oh, and, um....Rarr! I apparently think you're a dick now! How could you, rarr, rarr!

It was pretty rude to make such an issue of the deadline and not submit anything, and I know I came out looking foolish. I really did try, but everything I wrote came out choppy and awful. I'd rather submit nothing than crap. So, my apologies, DEP; I owe you one.
That said: "Falcon's Return" seems as if it would work well in "Legend," and I have no doubt if that story continues you'll work him in somewhere, but to my mind it doesn't do quite as well on its own, though still entertaining. As for "Cyssnea," maybe it's just me, but the coming-of-age theme juxtaposed with a D&D cosplay crowd - well, I can't say it's literarily unworkable, but it's not to my taste, and doesn't seem quite up to the standards you set with what you posted of the second Rentyre installment. Those points aside, I still have to go with DEP's story. The descriptions and general writing made it the most enjoyable to me.

Ouch. XD Let's just say there are good reasons I had scraped Cyssnea a long time ago. Though, there's less 'coming of age' and more of 'country boy mocking city folk- i.e., mocking RPG game mechanics and story lines'. But other than Ben meeting Raeh, and a scene where Raeh and Ben battle Dire Clowns, I never really figured out where the hell I was going with this story.
But I'd like to think that Cyssnea is at least close in style to Teatime. Which is where my frustrations have always lied- I liked writing Teatime, but to me the result is awful. And then there's Rentyre. It's very hard to write for, it feels like a gigantic mess of Sci-Fi perversion, and yet I like it a lot.
Not that it matters. I need to work on my contest piece so that it'll actually have content when I public-atize it on Halloween.

Winner picks theme for the next one (FSC II)? Say a 1 month deadline so there is plenty of time? Sound good?
Don't forget, voting ends in a few days, next time we'll have to leave the voting window up a bit longer. I went with 5 days, I think a week might be better, especially if more stories are entererd.
Also, should there be a limit on entries? If someone decides to write three stories, should this be allowed?
(And Locke, don't worry about it. We're all assholes from time to time, some more than others.)

Sounds good. But no multiple stories- that's just annoying.
