    I like xnull's myth theme
I also am interested in the maze idea

BUT, I LOVE Usoki's infinite story theme. It has complete captured my imagination and seems to have captured the imagination of a few other people here as well!

.... soooo when do we start?!

I'm fine with using infinity as a thematic idea, but again must disagree with using it as an actual "the story can't end" thing. I can see some pretty cool myths coming out of a contest though; I like that one.

Heh, you'd think I'd be the one against having a story that doesn't have an "ending".

But, if we do that one, I sort of already have an idea on how to do it. I may or may not risk points being knocked off for adding ONE ending, but then I've always tended to stray from the contest guidelines anyway.

The myth/legend one sounds cool too though, I'd like a more detail on what would be entailed for that one exactly. Are we using pre-existing myths or making up our own, etc.

Come on, now. I'd like to hear some other voices. Poop? Thoric? Chubby? Shabti? Any other (intelligent) forms of life out there?

I think this will be the biggest contest yet. I mean, after all, you can't let me win 3 TIMES IN A ROW.

          I must be destroyed!

But as for my opinions on the matter, I think the infinite story idea is okay, but I would probably prefer myth.

          More ideas, people. More ideas!

Science Fiction. Have we done that yet? I'm not sure.

            or

Fantasy. Have we done that yet? I'm not sure.

Aww, yay! ^_^ I figured it would go over well, but I didn't except all of you to be nearly this gung-ho about it.

Like End points out, the final infinite loop will be the hardest part, and there's only so many ways it can be done right. But I think that is why this contest would be so fun- it's hard, but everything else up to that point, we can do however we want. We won't have a ton of pieces closely related- we'll have a wide variety of selections. It's not so much a theme requirement as it is a CYOA skill requirement. That's really what I like most about it- it's a challenge that can be completed in any number of ways. It takes the CYOA format, and puts it in the forefront of importance.

But I could settle for a mythological or fantasy theme, as I enjoy that genre of writing. If we get more porn or horror, or some sort of tragic theme, I don't think I could pull it off well. Like End, I don't write outside of my comfort zone well, methinks.

Not strictly as a theme, but there have been scifi and fantasy stories entered for contests in the past.

There's an idea I have, I don't think it'll be as popular as a few of the other ideas for the contest, but I might do something like it on my own time anyway.

                Bloodline.

Basically you start with one protagonist, you make up an interesting family background, go through their life, when they die you then continue the story with that person's offspring, Obviously if they had no offspring the story ends.

Of course the obvious choice would be to use some sort of "royal family" but really it doesn't need to be. Also lends itself well to a fantasy setting since some have expressed interest in that genre.

I like that idea. I think it would encourage significantly larger entries and it lends itself incredibly well to the CYOA format. And as you said, it is not thematically limiting.

The bloodlines thing sounds like more a full blown novel rather than a CYOA tournament piece. Endmaster is the only person who has proven himself verbose enough to actually finish a contest piece like that. I'm thinking you'd be in the ballpark of 40,000-50,000 words to do it right. This is why we should do Usoki's infinite idea instead.

Bloodlines is viable, I think (that's actually a pun!). It's a harder topic, granted (especially if you want to make a shorter piece a real contender), but I quite like the idea. It's such a very open-ended theme that seems to beg for a story. Myths has a lot of potential, too, and I'm excited about it as well; so far my vote's going to one of those.

I'd have to agree with Apoth- given how much procrastination and laziness abounds here, we'd never finish up anything to create an actual bloodline piece. It's a fun thought, but ultimately it requires too much length for a contest like this. It's almost impossible to do justice to one character's full life, let alone several of them. I agree the idea begs for a story, but... it sure wouldn't be me writing it.

If not Infinite, I'd go Myth. I actually participated in the last two, and I'd like to keep the tradition alive. XD

Bloodline would be too long, as people have pointed out.

                          My vote goes to Myth.

I think it's about time we actually started a poll and did official voting.

I actually revise my vote, I really REALLY like the myths theme, better in fact than the infinite theme.

The infinite story theme and the bloodlines theme present one common hurdle... they seem impossibly long.

I know we have considered doing this before but CYS has not had a contest this year. It might be fun to challenge them to join ours. I'm not sure they would be into it, but it would be a very epic contest if they were.
