What a weird thing to collect. I'm also wondering how many of the "Be an Interplanetary Spy" books had actual content, since all of the dead ends are one-three sentences plus a huge picture. Still, quite the amusing tumblr.
And I like this one, since the offending character is aptly named Kobold:

And it's embarrassing when you make any noise at all.
Yeah, I had all 12 of those Interplanetary Spy books. While they varied in the amount of writing, all of them had a linear path of two choices, (sometime more, but usually two) where one was the correct choice and the other lead to a premature (and often nasty) end.
They differed though from the typical CYOA in that the choices offered were the possible answers of a simple puzzle given on the page, so basically you were weren't choosing randomly, but rather choosing based on what you thought was the correct solution to the puzzle.
The fully illustrated nature of the books was probably an attempt to make them more like a video game (The series even had the caption "More than a video game, YOU make the decision!" on the back of them).
Anyway, they certainly had a lot of cool death scenes.
Writing: It's more fun than a barrel of Ebola ridden monkeys!
