Screenshot says it all. It gave me a chuckle but it’s not a rhetorical question. Talk amongst yourselves... the King is listening and watching.

It was a Bible reference, smh.
I remember the context of that, it was Turnip asking if it was okay to put spoilers in reviews, obviously a silly question when the story side of the site has rampant depravity everywhere and a disclaimer saying it's not moderated.
I would certainly love a holy crusade to purge the macro and vore and forced weight gain freaks and inflationists etc.
Low rated stories that are a couple sentences torturing the English language each page: https://infinite-story.com/story/info.php?id=4511
Stories by and for white supremacists: https://infinite-story.com/story/info.php?id=17827
Plagiarized games, like the Stanley Parable one(s) and whatever the hell this is https://infinite-story.com/story/info.php?id=20005
But that all requires a certain amount of patriotic fervor to keep up as well as it with being subjective where to draw the line, so it seems unlikely.Last edited by mizal; 11-24-2019, 02:43 AM.

I could add a Report Abuse feature. What would the abuse options be? I would also need to modify terms of service.
hate / call to violence
spam/ad
plagiarism
What else?
It’s tough because I believe in free speech and I despise the entitled hypersensitivity and cancel culture we live in. But as this is my website, I do reserve some rights. I’d say anything that does the opposite of promoting community and writing culture is probably grounds for consideration.
I don’t think I would ban a user but instead simple prevent their stories from ever leaving private status.
It could also make sense to add a new rule to the browsable algorithm - if you’ve received > 20 ratings and you are under 1 star average then your story is no longer promoted in the browse feature.

Lol.
Honestly, that story is probably one of the average written stories on the site. It’s not really calling for violence, it’s more of a regular “power fantasy” type story just with a certain ideological bent. It doesn’t bother/offend me, but others might feel different I suppose.
I’d say the spam/ad and plagiarism stories are more of a problem, since those aren’t even contributing to site in any way.
The only other category that I can think of that ranks up there with spam/ad and plagiarism would be straight up child porn, along with anyone posting porn pics in their stories. (Didn't someone post a story recently on here with a bunch of dick pics?)Writing: It's more fun than a barrel of Ebola ridden monkeys!

The sad thing is the white supremacist guy's story had pretty decent writing and a lot of pages. If only those efforts could've been expended writing about anything else. But I see it as not only a consideration of the story itself, but the kind of people it may attract.

Over on CYS, I've been slowly dismantling a ring of 'girls needing to pee but they can't get to a bathroom for various reasons and oh aren't they embarrassed when they wet themselves in public!' aficionados surrounding a story that was allowed to fester way too long, because no one at the time recognized what it was until imitators started popping up.
And 'doing the opposite of promoting community and writing culture' doesn't even have to be just skeevy stuff. CYS has a flat ban on Warrior Cats stories, for instance, and it was the second best call the head mod over there ever made and the beginning of the massive upswing in quality the average story had over there over the next couple of years. Because that and the roleplay ban gave the eight year olds who only existed to derail threads and throw tantrums while flooding the new storygames list with the same low effort dribblings about the same non-plot no reason to hang around. (Except even after that we still had them popping up for years, because the fans were still finding Warrior Cats stories sitting unpublished in people's stories through Google, and for awhile the site wound up as part of the autocomplete results for 'warrior cats game' which really didn't help...)
....you know I can't even remember where I was going with this, it's just that moderating stories is really hard unless you're willing to just pull the trigger on instinct sometimes without worrying about absolute fairness or creative freedom.
It could also make sense to add a new rule to the browsable algorithm - if you’ve received > 20 ratings and you are under 1 star average then your story is no longer promoted in the browse feature.
And btw, I was just trying to verify this, but I noticed sorting by total ratings appears to be broken:

Another cleansing/maintenance idea I’ve had is to identify abd make private abandoned stories - ones that are open for submissions but owner has > x pending review and they are of a certain age. I think a lot of people create a public story with a 20 rooms or do and then never return. I haven’t looked at those stats in awhile. I’ll start a thread once I run the report.

Maybe it should also check if a story is below a certain size? Either pages or word count, I don't know. But there can be a worthwhile amount of work done by multiple authors even on a story that's since been abandoned.
This is pretty sad to see, btw:
Wonder if Apoth will ever wander back in.
It's a good idea for all the little dead fragments floating around though. Really all of the changes you've made so far are coming at things from the right direction IMO. Or at least my way at looking at a site like this is that people come here to read before they write. And you get more serious writers by default with the worst of the chaff cleared away to attract more discerning readers and make it easier on them to find the quality stories.Last edited by mizal; 11-28-2019, 12:12 PM.

Yikes! Maybe there will be a rule that turns off submissions for stories that have significant content. In fact, I think this is a distinct rule. If you get over say > 10 submissions pending review and your oldest submission is > 2 weeks then submissions are disabled. I like that. Any ideas for these two threshold values?
