Doesn't the idea that something can't be both true and not true amount to the same thing? The Law of Non-contradiction?

For instance, I could use your exmaples and say:

"It is true that something is either sort of bumpy or not sort of bumpy."

And I could do the same thing with the other example, had I more time to play with the words.

Anyways, cool post Xnull. You touch on a lot of good points.

Aside from the "I think therefore I am" thing, I think it is also absolutely true that both truth and falsity exist.

Since, "I think, therefore I am." is an absolutele truth, you can deduce that truth existing is an absolute truth, and hence the statement "I am not." would be absolutely false.

Another cool proof for truth's existence is to ponder what if truth didn't exist. Then, it would be true that truth doesn't exist... a contradiction.

All of these assume the Law of Non-contradiction, though, which is something we have no proof of.

      Oh, and about "The Matrix".

I'm not sure if you guys caught this, but I don't actually think we live in a "computer world"; there's really no reason to think that, that I can see (although it is possible). When I used the phrase "Matrix created by the genes and memes", I was being more figurative. I was illustating that what we sense as going on in the world probably isn't what really goes on. For example, colors don't actually "exist" as an entity -- we only see them because of the light that travels into our eyes. Same thing with sounds, smells, etc.

Also, there's this whole "free will" thing. I think that everything we do comes back to preserving replicators; we live for them. There's even strong scientific evidence that suggests that the brains just "make up" reasons why we do things. We do shit, and we think we do it for a reason, but before our brains even forumlate the reasons, we already have our minds made up as to what we're going to do.

      Crazy.

      Sorry, I've written too much.

      But I love this stuff.

Perhaps I'll take a short break...

Whenever I see conversations like this, I always think of the idea of solipsism. I don't think it actually works like that, but it is a very interesting concept to ponder.

Usoki, search around on the forums a bit. We had a good conversation of solipsism a while back. On that note, I'm heading to a solipsist convention soon, any imaginary person here want in?

Did we? Hmmm, I must have lost it in the massive paragraphs of text. Depending on my attention span, I just let you guys babble. Or I just missed it because I didn't know what I was looking for. It's a concept I briefly learned about in high school, and then promptly forgot about until I stumbled across it again while Wiki-surfing.

And, yes, a solipsist convention sounds awesome. My personality will be recycled and reused for one of the people there, so look for me.

And that's why you're amazing, xnull.

...Okay, so I know Ves went through and removed friends from her main site account, and then turned off all of her stories from her main site account, but...really? Deleting forum discussion post by post as you find it? Really? Somebody had a busy May 6th... Good God.

Yeah, I noticed her doing the post editing thing that day when she temporarily made a brand new post saying "blah blah blah" in the IWT6 thread but then deleted it. I'm guessing she didn't mean to make a new post in her editing frenzy.

Apparently she didn't want to L any T's, as we say in backpacking lingo.

The only experience I have with that expression is busting an L on some T's, which means busting a Load on some Tits. What are you talking about?

                        Leave any Tracks?

Oh, good call, Ryan. That'd have to be it- especially in "backpacking lingo", where the idea is to leave as little impact on the natural surroundings as possible as you camp. And that's certainly what's she's done, since she's deleted as much of herself as possible.

I just don't know why you would bother saying that, since "L any T's" is a horrifically awkward phrase to say, and it much rougher of the tongue than "Leave any Tracks". It's not like the abbreviation saves time or energy.

Leave any Traces, yeah. I'm not sure why they choose to abbreviate it. I guess it helps bring us outdoorsy people together since it is part of a secret language we share that no one else, without a very minor amount of cognitive effort at least, will understand.

Load on someone's tits was a good guess though. There is also load on someone's teeth, tongue, taint, or even trachea.

For some reason, that reminds me of that porno site about cumming in retainers fetish. Any of you ever come across that? I know Xnull has, since he was probably the one who showed it to me. They describe how these young teenage girls love when well hung men cum in their retainers so they can wear it and taste the cum flavor all day. I never understood why someone would want to taste that for the entire day. Wouldn't it be better to put honey or chocolate or bacon in your retainer?

Now, see, in a "normal" forum, such a topic would have initialized a conversation about hiking, or camping, or random outdoorsy adventures. Here, we get a conversation speculating the motivation of porn fetishes. God, I love this place.

Ok I've got to own up to you guys I was actually hoping that you guys would start talking about what you guys had said in this thread because I'm using your opinions to create an essay that I needed to do for school and mainly I guess I got to thank you for the speedy take off.

Also people in life lie to each other each day what is to say that when the Bible was created they weren't being falses about that.
